Never Stop Writing

Sometimes some people do some things for the money.

You hear people say that all the time:

“Well, yes, uh-huh, yeah … I did it for the money.”

And that’s OK. We all need “the money.” Or, at least, some money.

But you know what? I really don’t care. I really, really don’t.

I’m just going to write.

Yes, I realize that 99 percent of everything I write will be indiscriminately ignored. Because the fact is that nobody really cares about writing.

Unless they care so deeply they can’t stand it. These chosen few HAVE to read what you wrote. They have no choice. But these people, of course, are hard to find.

And that’s OK. Well no, it really isn’t. But it is the way it is.

I can’t change it, I can’t fix it, I can’t stop it. No more than I can erect a billboard on the moon. And I can’t really endorse it or embrace it either.

What I can do is write. And never stop writing. And, hopefully, someday, somehow, I will find my voice and my audience. My PEOPLE.

And they will be drawn to my writing. I won’t have to beg them to read it. They’ll find it. They’ll come slithering out from under their rocks and their caves and their impossibly demanding lives and their boring-but-important jobs.

And they will read. They will not read at me. They will read with me.

Do you believe?
